Mercy Housing Southeast A Profile in Affordable Housing a case study

A Profile in Affordable Housing

CHALLENGE

Mercy Housing Southeast (MHSE) was instrumental in creating a national, affordable housing Peer Exchange event in Seattle that involved other Atlanta-based affordable housing organizations and the City of Atlanta. When MHSE leaders returned from the Exchange, they wanted to build support for their unique endeavors in helping Atlanta’s underserved populations.

OUR THINKING

As affordable housing continued to be a hot topic in Atlanta, the WM team advised MHSE to demonstrate thought leadership by going beyond information downloads to focus on driving understanding.

OUR ACTION

The team coordinated with MHSE, other affordable housing agencies and the City of Atlanta to break the news.  The agency pitched key local media leading public discourse on affordable housing, offering exclusive access to MHSE leaders and findings from the Peer Exchange event. New messaging was drafted and leaders were prepared to conduct a series of interviews on multiple platforms to help influential Atlantans understand Mercy Housing Southeast’s work.

RESULTS

Within several months, MHSE was illuminated in a 20-minute interview on the WABE-FM segment “Closer Look” with Rose Scott, which is syndicated to other NPR stations nationwide. The team also secured coverage in the Atlanta Business Chronicle and Atlanta’s leading nonprofit newsletter, the Saporta Report
